Former residents of Borehamwood who have emigrated to Australia have decided to hold an annual Borehamwood Day in Sydney, to reminisce and have a beer.

Nick Stone, who started up Borehamwood's first Thai boxing school before he left 12 years ago, organised the get-together at a traditional pub in the Rocks district of Sydney.

The former Hillside School pupil now runs Bulldog gym in Sydney, which has the largest chain of Thai boxing schools in Australia. He said: "We talk about the things we got up to and the places we used to go."

Although most of those that meet up didn't know each other back in Borehamwood, they have developed a bond because of their home town link.

"We are close. We used to meet up every now and then but thought why don't we have an annual Borehamwood Day".

Asked if he misses anything about Borehamwood, he says: "I might get slagged off for this, but personally I don't miss anything except my family." Nick's message to his old friends is: "I know it's a long way for a holiday, but I would love to see you all out here."
