A FIELD of only seven clubs will battle it out for the first prize of £400 when the second St Albans Observer Mail Boxes Etc Cricket Competition gets under way later this month.
The draw for the group stages was finally made today (Wednesday, May 7) after the organisers' late attempts to get an eighth team involved proved fruitless, and it reads (seeds in caps): Group A: OLD ALBANIAN; London Colney; St Albans; Abbey. Group B: ST ALBANS WEST INDIAN; Greenwood Park, Sandridge.
The match schedule is:
Week One (matches to be played by May 30): Old Albanian v London Colney (Group A); St Albans v Abbey (Group A); Sandridge v Greenwood Park (Group B).
Week Two (matches to be played by June 6): London Colney v St Albans (Group A); Abbey v Old Albanian (Group A); Greenwood Park v St Albans West Indian (Group B).
Week Three (matches to be played by June 13): St Albans v Old Albnian (Group A); Abbey v London Colney (Group A); St Albans West Indian v Sandridge (Group B).
Semi-Finals (both to be played at Woollams Park on June 24): Winner Group A v Runner-up Group B; Runner-up Group A v Winner Group B.
Final scheduled for Tuesday, July 8, at Wollams Park.
For more details on the draw, and news of some minor changes to it, make sure you pick up this week's issue of the St Albans Observer.
