Recently, Barnet Council has painted out the graffiti from the walls under the railway bridge in Mill Hill Broadway. It also pained out the graffiti from around the bridge itself.

The result? A blank canvas for mindless hooligans to create new graffiti. What a complete waste of money. Why do we subsidise these vandals through our taxes by providing them with clean wall space? New graffiti appeared within days. Perhaps it's a new Keynesian theory about creating employment.

Surely if the council is going to remove graffiti in this way it needs to have a better system in place to deal with the consequences? Perhaps anti-graffiti paint, CCTV cameras or simply someone keeping watch? It was plain to anyone with an ounce of common sense (which I guess counts out most of the council) that this was going to happen. I and many other residents of Mill Hill would be interested in a response from the local authority.
