A NEW campaign has been launched to help Hertfordshire parents troubled with family break-ups.
Parentline Plus, which runs a free 24-hour helpline for parents, has set up "Contact Counts" in response to an increase in calls about divorce and separation issues.
At the last census there were over 9,000 divorced or separated residents in St Albans district. Nationally, almost one in ten households are lone-parent families.
The aim of Contact Counts will be to help parents manage separation in a way that minimises the effect on children.
Ms Sandra Hiller, area manager for the charity's Hertfordshire branch, said: "Parentline Plus believes it is often not that you separate that matters, it is how.
"We need to let parents know that there is information available, and that it is a sign of strength to seek help with these difficult issues."
Parents or carers needing advice can call the Parentline Plus helpline on 0808 800 2222, or visit <http://www.parentlineplus.org.uk>
