A WATFORD primary school will have to undergo "special measures" after inspectors identified overall standards English, mathematics and science were below that achievable.
The news stems from a report by the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) following an official inspection at Parkgate School in Southwold Road, Watford, in January.
The inspection was carried out weeks after the appointment of the school's new acting headteacher, Mr Gary White.
The findings reinforce fears expressed by parents about the levels of attainment and areas of teaching.
In its report Ofsted detailed concerns about some areas of teaching and learning, assessment, and some aspects of best practice of financial management as well as the role of school's governing body.
While inspectors described Parkgate Junior's pupils as being "enthusiastic" about learning and deemed levels of attendance to be "good", it concluded the school required "special measures".
This means the school will be required to draw up a detailed action plan, with the support from the Local Education Authority (LEA), to demonstrate how it intends to make rapid improvement.
