Edgware's solid recent form took a turn for the worse on Saturday when they were beaten at The White Lion by league leaders Cheshunt.
Although starting the game brightly the home side fell behind after 25 minutes to a well-taken goal by Glen Adams.
Leon Archer made it two seven minutes before the break, leaving the home side facing an uphill battle in the second period.
When Cheshunt scored their third through Ryan Harris five minutes after the restart, the game was effectively over. A plucky Wares side pulled one back midway through a half not devoid of controversy.
Anthony Thomas, desperately trying to retrieve the ball from the Cheshunt dugout, reappeared with a head wound, which left the referee to have strong words with the visitors' coaching staff.
The blow to Thomas seemed to do the trick, however, as he scored Edgware's consolation goal shortly afterwards.
