TUBE staff are on alert and equipment is being disinfected after a Rickmansworth train driver was diagnosed with a deadly virus.

London Underground bosses have been monitoring the health of Metropolitan line employees since the man, who has not been named, was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis on Thursday, April 3.

Train carriages and the Wembley Park depot have reportedly undergone intensive cleaning.

A Tube spokesman said: "We are taking all precautions necessary. Bacterial meningitis can only be spread by intimate contact.

"We are watching the situation very closely but there have not been any further cases."

The driver last worked on Sunday, March 30.
