HERTFORDSHIRE'S Local Government Association (HLGA) which represents the county council and 10 district or borough councils has objected to the county's inclusion in the East of England region.
The group argues that the regional boundaries should be re-drawn to reflect Hertfordshire's traditional economic and transport links with London and the surrounding areas.
HLGA will be writing to Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott asking him to review the boundaries before considering a referendum on a possible Regional Assembly in the East of England.
Mr Michael Janes, vice-chairman of the HGLA, said: "We have little in common with Norfolk and Suffolk, our problems and concerns are more allied to the South East."
According to a recent MORI poll of 1,000 Hertfordshire residents only four per cent knew Hertfordshire was in the East of England Region, 15 per cent thought it was in the South East and 70 per cent did not know.
