A RECOMMENDATION was made by Three Rivers District councillors to award a £1,500 grant to a pregnancy crisis centre and drop-in centre for girls.

Although Girl About Drop-in Centre and Connections Pregnancy Crisis Centre are based on St Albans Road in Watford, councillors decided to award the money as it could help girls from Three Rivers.

Councillor Peter Wakeling said: "Even if just one girl from the Three Rivers district is helped it will be worth £1,500."

Advice on pregnancy or abortion is provided by the pregnancy centre and free pregnancy testing and baby clothes are available.

The drop-in centre offers help and referrals on subjects such as eating disorders and family problems. Advice on careers and writing CVs is also available.

The grant will assist with the provision of internet access and equipment on the condition that under 16s are supervised in the material they research.

After only a few months in business, the centre has received a great deal of support and it is hoped that any girls in Three Rivers needing help will make use of the facilities.

The final decision will be made by the executive committee at their next meeting.
