THERE is no reason why Bushey Station should lose its fast train service, according to Watford councillor and railway man Andy Wylie.

Councillor Wylie was speaking at a public meeting at the Methodist Church in King Edward Road, Watford, on Tuesday, December 2.

Dozens of residents from Oxhey, Bushey and Watford crammed into the church hall to learn the fate of the Silverlink County service and to sign an open letter to Mr Richard Branson, asking him to intervene. MP for Hertsmere James Clappison, Watford Mayor Dorothy Thornhill, the Oxhey Village Environment Group, and representatives from Watford, Hertsmere and Hertfordshire councils were also present.

Bushey's fast train service has been under threat since the West Coast Mainline modernisation programme began.

At the meeting, Councillor Wylie confirmed residents' fears that, unless a longer platform is built at Bushey, the station will lose the service altogether.
