DUAL celebrations were in line for staff and students of West Herts College, after the educational establishment achieved success in two of the most prestigious awards in display and design.

Display students were presented with certificates on Wednesday, March 20, at Cassio Campus in Langley Road, Watford, after West Herts College claimed a total of ten out of 13 awards in the 2002 National Student Window Competition.

News of the prestigious win follows weeks after it was announced the college would retain its Viscount Hambleden Trophy, awarded by the British Society.

The award is presented annually to colleges found to demonstrate an innovative and pro-active approach to display education.

To enter this year's National Student Window Competition, entrants were required to design and construct a model of an island site, supported by colour visuals, plans and working drawings, for a chain of garden centres.

All West Herts College students won awards, including a silver, bronze, highly commended and and seven commendations.

Chairman of the British Display Society, Mr Bernard Brandham, said: "The entries this year were not only of an exceptionally high standard but also imaginative, well-presented and, without exception, a credit to the students' colleges".

He said the standard of West Herts College's entries was so high the judging panel felt all submissions were worthy of an award, which was unprecedented.
