A NEW scheme to help young people in Hertfordshire get the best out of life was launched at a conference attended by almost 200 delegates in the county.
Connexions, due to start in this area next April, is part of a national initiative supporting 13-to-19-year-olds, and helping them make the most of their education and career opportunities.
A draft youth charter drawn up by about 80 young people from throughout the county, saying what services they would like and how they want to receive them, was presented to last week's meeting in Hatfield.
"It was a very powerful opportunity for us all to listen to young people about the way they perceive services and to talk about how we can really meet their needs," said Connexions chief executive Mr Andrew Simmons.
He added: "Connexions brings together all support for young people in one strategy, making sure that young people get the best possible support in their transition to adulthood."
Representatives from education, local council and voluntary organisations are on the project's board.
Delegates heard about a nine-month-old pilot scheme, and saw a video made by the young people who compiled their charter.
