WATFORD mayor Sybil Tuckwood visited West Herts Golf Club on Sunday, December 16, to present the turkeys to the winners of the Turkey Stakes Competition.
All the competitors had contributed their entry fees to the mayor's chosen charity, the New Hope Trust, and she gratefully received a £400 cheque on its behalf.
Jim Edwards (9) and Terry Crilly (18) just pipped Harry Phelps and Bill Burgess for the Saturday turkey, both teams finishing 10 up.
The victors on Sunday were Maurice Beasley (10) and Les Willis (17), who, together with their fellow winners, are looking forward to a delicious turkey next week, despite being given the bird by the other competitors.
