LISA PAVELEY capped what has been a terrific individual season with another couple of medals at the St Albans Judo Club Championships.

These come just a fortnight after she claimed a silver and gold at the National Ladies Junior Championships in Hereford in November.

Here, she won the silver medal in the under 70kg category, while picking up the gold medal in the Open Dan Grade category for the second year running.

Following these successes, she then earned the gold in the St Albans Ladies Open in December beating her sister Gemma to the title while also proving that judo is more than just strength when she earned the bronze in the Men's equivalent.

"I've been involved at St Albans for 14 or 15 years, and the standard is very good there," Lisa said, adding that next on her busy agenda is a week's training trip to Majorca in February.

"A group of us from around the country have been going out there every year since 1992. Sato Sensei will be on the mat."

Sato Sensei is the Sixth Dan coach of the Spanish national team, and a regular visitor to the St Albans Club.

Another significant winner at the St Albans Club Championships was the National Champion of 2000, Chris Shadbolt. After winning gold in his group at the National Championships in Hereford last month, he retained the Dan Grade (black belt) title at the St Albans Club Championships.

Meanwhile, 16-year-old Adam Breed was another notable winner, as he stepped up to senior level for the first time to take the Kyu Grade (anything but black belt) title.

Coupled with this, the defending National Junior Champion also scooped the top prize in the Espoirs group, for 16-18 year olds.
