STAFF at a Watford law firm were delighted to welcome Watford FC manager Gianluca Vialli to open their new premises on Wednesday.

Matthew Arnold and Baldwin, Watford FC's solicitors, have been practising law in the town for more than 100 years, and, three months ago, took over a brand new building in Station Road across the road from their old offices.

Vialli cut the blue and green ribbon, the colours of the firm's new look, and then spent time meeting staff and signing autographs.

Vialli said it was important for him to take part in community activities in Watford.

He said: "I have always been at big clubs that have had a connection between the town and the club itself. Playing a part in the community is not new to me. It is the right thing to do."

"The town and the supporters are very close to the club and it gives me more drive.

"People here are very supportive and polite unlike other places I have been where they can be quite rude and demanding.

"When its not me its the players who come out into the community. Its not just about getting results - its about being in the community and doing something for them and I think we do a lot. I don't think anyone can complain about our commitment to Watford off the pitch."

Mr Richard Hanney, senior partner at Matthew Arnold and Baldwin, said he was delighted that Vialli came to their offices as he wanted to do something special for the firm and its 17 partners and 120 staff to mark the occasion.

He said: "We moved buildings because we wanted to create a fresh new impression and we are anxious to continue to provide and existing clients with a better and more comprehensive service.

"Our new offices have the latest technology and we have created a better working environment for our staff.

"We decided not to move out of Watford when we outgrew our offices because the firm has been here since 1900 and our roots are here.

"We want to continue to look after the needs of local people and business although our business extends well beyond Watford as we have national and international clients who use the practice."
