Whilst manna (food packets) drop from heaven, the seeds (cluster bombs) of death follow, and 'smart bombs' destroy Red Cross warehouses.

Around 35,000 cluster bombs fell on Yugoslavia. The war has long since ended in that country, but innocents are continuing to fall victim to these air-borne landmines.

War in Afghanistan is aimed at rooting out terrorism and, while the hunt goes on for the killer of thousands of innocents in New York, terrorism continues with the use of other methods.

I am reminded of the war in the Gulf. Ten years have passed and we, alongside the USA, are continuingto bomb Iraq; the arch villain Saddam Hussein is still very much in power, and still the innocents continue to suffer the effects of our bombing.

Condemnation of the horror that took place on September 11 demands that the perpetrators be punished. However, turning tragedy into war will result in the suffering of many more thousands of innocent Afghans.

Their country is so poor and devastated by drought and the years of conflict that 25 per cent of children born there die before the age of five.

It is time to call a halt to the war. Many thousands throughout our country are demonstrating their opposition to the war. On November 18, Trafalgar Square will again be filled with a nationwide demonstration to end the war.
