SHOPPERS and pub goers in Hertfordshire are being warned by police to be on their guard following reports of bogus charity collectors in the county.

Two women, believed to be sisters, have been visiting high street shops and pubs in Watford, Kings Langley, St Albans, Hemel Hempstead and Milton Keynes claiming to be collecting for a local children's home or asking for sponsors for a 5-10 mile charity run.

The women carry clipboards and are understood to target customers and managers alike. It is believed they have been operating in the area for the last six months.

The eldest woman is described as 25 years old, white, 6ft tall, of slim build, with dark brown shoulder length curly hair and speaks with an English accent.

Her accomplice is white, 21 years old, 5ft 7inst tall, thin with short straight dark brown hair and speaks with a deep voice.

Anyone with information relating to the two women can contact the Western Area Crime Desk on 01442 271002.
