WATFORD Reserve team coach Ray Lewington was irritated by reports he was unhappy at Vicarage Road and wishes he had gone to West Ham United instead.

Lewington, who is probably the most qualified reserve team coach Watford have ever had in terms of experience at senior coaching levels, thinks it is a case of people trying to read his mind.

"I think someone thinks I should have taken the West Ham job a week after being offered the first team coach's job there," said Lewington this week. "The offer came a week after I had shaken hands on the deal with Watford.

"I imagine someone thinks I can't be happy about it.

"In fact, I was grateful to take the job here at Watford in the first place, and the fact that something that looks better people are putting two and two together and come up with me being unhappy.

"There's nothing in it. I'm not unhappy. I didn't see the article but I understand the Southend post was also mentioned, but I wouldn't be interested. Another article talked about Brighton coming in but there is no substance.

"I phoned Ray Wilkins as soon as I heard about these articles. Luca and Ray appear to be pulling things round and it's on the up at the moment, so we don't want anything to rock the boat."
