AS Watford move closer to actually applying for planning permission, they reveal the proposals for the new Main Stand have generally been well received.

The club held a series of exhibitions in the Rous Stand, attended by approximately 200 people.

The exhibition was also on view at the Worthington Cup game against Plymouth Argyle and at the Fans Forum, while a presentation of the scheme was made to the West Watford Community Forum.

Gerald Knight, the project manager, reports particularly favourable comments were made about the design, the enhanced facilities, the disabled provision and the improvements to Occupation Road.

Some fans expressed concerns about the fact the development does not increase the stadium capacity. It was explained it was not possible in the constrained situation on the east side of the ground to achieve extra seats as well as providing the enhanced facilities for both supporters and the local community.

The computer model shows how increased seating could be achieved in the future on the Rookery-Rous, Red Lion and Rous-Vicarage Road corners .

Another issue of particular concern included the need for even greater improvements to Occupation Road, especially the rear boundaries of the Liverpool Road properties which back onto Occupation Road. Some Liverpool Road residents were concerned about ongoing access and parking in Occupation Road. A further open evening for Liverpool Road residents will be held so any remaining issues can be discussed before the planning application is submitted.

Current Main Stand season ticket holders are concerned about the allocation of seating in the new stand. This will be the subject of further consultation with those concerned.

Commented Knight: "We believe that the local community and the fans have now had a good opportunity to see the plans and to comment. We are heartened by the response we have received throughout the consultation process, and we are now in the process of drawing up detailed plans for submission with the planning application. "
