SOME famous faces from Watford Football Club celebrated the success of local pupils last week following the completion of an extra curricular educational course, Playing for Success, at the club in Vicarage Road.

More than 100 parents gathered at the club to watch Watford Football Club's manager Gianluca Vialli, assistant manager Ray Wilkins and club captain Nigel Gibbs present certificates and awards to pupils aged between ten and 12 who had successfully completed the ten-week course.

Organised by the Watford Learning Centre, and funded by Hertfordshire County Council and the Department for Education and Skills (DFES), the course helps pupils develop their numeracy, literacy and computer skills through structured exercises and assignments conducted out of school hours.

Mr Gibbs, the club's longest serving player, said: "The children have worked very hard, it was a pleasure to be part of such a successful evening."

In acknowledging the success of the centre, Mr Vialli said: "If the squad works as hard in training as these children have here, we will have a very successful team at the end of the season."
