There's only one problem with summer holidays from school ,, they can become boring after a while.

To give Radlett's children something interesting to do over the long summer days, Aldenham Parish Council organised a series of fun days at Phillimore Court in Battlers Green Drive, and put on a host of activities for them.

This Tuesday's event was the highlight of the month, when 75 children from the village spent the afternoon learning arts and crafts and enjoyed a Millennium tea party, each being given a share of a huge red, white and blue cake.

The fun days were organised and funded by the council with extra money donated by Hertsmere Council's Millennium Arts Festival Fund.

So far there have been four fun days, catering for nearly 300 children.

Jan Fletcher, the deputy clerk at the parish council, said: 'Not everybody can afford to go to all the other activities available in the summer, so the council decided it should do something in the school holidays that everyone could go to.

'It's good for the parents too, they can stay if they want to or have a break from their children for a while.'

The party was sponsored by the Radlett and District Round Table, which regularly collects money around the village and was keen to support an event for local children.

'A lot of our money goes towards buying food parcels for senior citizens. This was a good way to do something for people at the other end of the scale,' said the Round Table's vice chairman, Jeremy Pepper.
