A Scotsman refused entry to a Borehamwood bar for wearing shorts decided to make his point in true Highland style ,, he returned in a kilt.

Gary Grant had the committee of the Three Ways Community Association reaching for the rule book when he appeared on Sunday night.

The association, which runs the community centre in Arundel Drive, does not allow members to wear shorts in the bar after 7pm at weekends.

But chairman Frank Ward, himself a Scotsman, was hastily summoned to assess the situation and agreed to let the kilted 35-year-old in.

Mr Ward, who has lived in England for 32 years, joked: 'I couldn't possibly turn him down ,, I had to ensure one of Scotland's fellow sons was not discriminated against.

'But I think there may have been some unrecorded disapproval among the English majority membership of the association.'

Receptionist Lynn Walker, who lives in Featherstone Gardens, refused Gary entry and was shocked to see him reappear at around 9.40pm.

Gary, of Manor Way, who has lived in England for ten years and wears his kilt when supporting the Scottish football team, told her: 'I bet this is not in your English book of rules.'

Mr Ward said: 'This just goes to show that the Three Ways, like every organisation, really does not know the answer to everything.'

The centre claims to sell the cheapest drinks in Borehamwood ,, that should appeal to every Scotsman!
