The makers of the quiz which offers a chance to win a million are about to top their own record ,, by launching a show with unlimited prize money.

Celador, which produces Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, will shoot the first episode of The People Versus at Elstree Film and Television Studios on Saturday.

The show is based on three contestants answering questions, worth £5,000 each, set by viewers on five subjects they have chosen themselves.

When a contestant gets a question wrong the viewer who fielded it, via phone or e-mail, will then be entitled to take their place in the show.

Celador's managing director, Paul Smith, said: 'There has never been a show like this before where the viewers can really put their money where their mouth is.

'Instead of just shouting at the television when you know the answers, you can actually do something about it and maybe end up on the programme.'

The show, hosted by Kirsty Young, will be shown on ITV each Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, with each episode being filmed at the Elstree Way studios the night before. Question categories chosen by contestants could be anything from the music of the Spice Girls to Dad's Army, or the life and times of Nelson Mandela.

Kirsty said: 'The great thing about The People Versus... is that it's all about the audience ,, they set the questions, they answer them and they win the cash.'

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, also based at Elstree Film Studios, has proved so successful that versions of it are now being shown in 29 different countries.
