A £5,000 green Audi was stolen from the car park of the Glen Eagle Hotel in Luton Road, Harpenden, in the early hours of Sunday morning after the thief stole the keys.
The owners of the car, a married couple, were asleep when climbed in through the bedroom window via the flat roof.
After removing several items from the room, the thief went back out onto the roof and sorted through the items before finding the owner's car keys, and driving off in the Audi through the front entrance of the hotel.
