THEY say that good employees are hard to find, so St Albans' City Station has struck gold by boasting one of the best in the business.

Platform supervisor Lee Johnson has just become a finalist in the prestigious Station Employee of the Year competition.

Since joining Thameslink three years ago, he has been responsible for ensuring the smooth-running of trains through the city.

And in that time he has encountered all the things associated with modern rail travel, namely overcrowded trains, long delays and disgruntled passengers.

But the committed 22-year-old claims he wouldn't swap his job for anything in the world.

Mr Johnson of Belmont Court, St Albans, came to the attention of his employers after he dramatically saved the life of a passenger who had collapsed on the platform.

The winning employee will be announced at a special awards ceremony on Thursday, September 7, at the London Hilton Hotel in Park Lane.
