Seven youngsters from Boreham Wood Athletic Club turned in a magnificent performance at the final Eastern Young Athletes League meet in Watford last Sunday.

The Wood squad covered themselves in glory by taking top three spots in several events at the competition held at Woodside Stadium.

Gemma Young, competing in the 75m hurdles, came first with a time of 13.2secs. She also took top spot in the high jump with 1.40m. Gemma claimed second place in the 100m (14.1secs).

Her team mate Tova Brown threw 20.47m to take first place in the javelin and notched second in the discus (14.23m).

Cerri Burns won the 1500m as she clocked 6mins 36.5 secs. She took second place in the discus with a throw of 12.19m.

Jamie Pownceby excelled in the long jump to take top honours with a personal best of 4.27m. He also notched two second places, discus (22.48m) and 100m (13.8secs).

Christopher Clark claimed first place in the shot with a personal best of 7.01m and second in the discus with another personal best (17.06m).

Andrew Clark achieved two second places, in the shot with a personal best of 5.23m and the long jump with a personal best of 2.29m.

Christopher Walker posted two third places. He clocked 17.5secs in the 100m for a personal best and leapt 2.78m for a personal best in the long jump.

Thirteen-year-old Tova Brown is heading to Southampton later this month as part of the Herts athletics squad competing in the Youth Games.
