A VIDEO showing how people can keep their homes secure while on holiday has been produced by Hertfordshire Constabulary.

This year, home burglaries in the county fell for the third successive year but police have warned people not to be complacent in the summer.

Chief Inspector Tim Bonnett, head of community safety in the county's force, said: 'Hertfordshire is one of the safest counties in the country, with one of the lowest burglary levels.

'But we need everybody's help to keep it that way.

'By following simple advice on how to reduce the risk of burglary, householders can do their best to avoid an unpleasant break-in this summer and all year round.'

Advice included in the video includes locking windows and keeping the key out of sight, asking somebody to watch the house while the family are away, keeping valuables out of sight, cancelling newspapers and milk, and locking gates which give easy access to the rear of the property.

The video, Safe As Houses, is available free of charge from Blockbuster Videos, which has stores in St Albans Road, Watford, Bushey High Street, Watford Road, Croxley Green, Bridlington Road, South Oxhey, and Eastbury Road, Northwood.
