Elstree 179

Ware 100

Herts Cricket League

Division Seven

After a bout of mid-season blues Elstree finally hit their stride last Saturday with this trouncing of Ware.

Hosts Elstree elected to bat and their batsmen rapidly achieved double figures ,, Gary Watson 10, Andy Green 11 and Dave Barnett 33.

Then the alliance of Duncan Rowland (35) and Andy Cadogan (31) gave the innings a boost with a stand of 41.

After these two were removed Steve Adams (34no) stepped in and played well, assisted by the tail, to give Elstree a formidable 179 at the close. Though it could have been much less, had the last wicket not gleaned 26 runs.

When visitors Ware batted they came out guns blazing and at 46-1, off just seven overs, things looked glum for their hosts.

However, this was the moment when Elstree's Martyn Dunn came to the fore and proceeded to decimate Ware with a spell of 6-44 ,, his best showing for the club ,, off 12 overs.

Ware's batsmen had no reply to Dunn and even when he fired off the occasional loose ball it was struck toward a fielder.

With Dunn in full flow at one end, Elstree skipper Graham Cane toiled at the other in his usual miserly fashion, with 3-18 off 13 overs. The game's final wicket fell with over 16 overs left, making Ware's downfall all too apparent.
