COLNEY HEATH'S new signings have been bedding in during the first two pre-season friendlies of the season and, if the results are any guide, it is so far so good.

Having been forced to take a depleted squad away to play Worthing reserves due to weddings and holiday commitments, coach Geoff O'Vell threw some youngsters in at the deep end and they showed, with a 1-0 win, that they are more likely to swim than sink, the winning goal being scored by 16-year-old Steve Blacklock.

A stronger team took to the pitch for the game against Ryman League side Leighton Town last Thursday, and it seemed to gel as new striker Dave Hewing's goal earnt them a 1-1 draw during which Ross Howard impressed up front and ex-Hertford Town centre half Danny Price excelled throughout.

Colney manager Darren Jeggo has appointed the vastly experienced Fizz Khan as captain for this season's South Midlands League campaign, expecting him to drive the side forward from his central midfield position.
