DEAN Yates blotted a good performance on Tuesday by conceding a penalty.

"I thought I got the ball for the penalty and I was surprised when the referee gave it," he said.

"The referee said to me that I had caught the player before I got the ball and that was his decision. There was no way back for us after that although we did have a couple of chances. We had a poor first leg and we have not really linked together yet as a team with a lot of new faces in the side."

Substitute Darren Bazeley said: "Cambridge are not a bad team. They played quite well and after a poor first leg performance by ourselves, they came here looking to win it.

"We all wanted a nice cup run and when the draw was announced, we were looking to go through against a Third Division side.

"But it does not always work out like that."

Said Ronny Rosenthal: "We didn't play particularly well in the last league game but we knew we had a chance in the League Cup. The first half we played badly but we started the second half brilliantly.

"There are a lot of changes in the team and we have to get the right team now. It is the first time I have played a full game up front with Michel. It will take the team four or five games to get the right shape. I don't mind playing as a striker.

"I know we didn't create a lot of chances today but I thought our attacking was encouraging in the second half."
