FOLLOWING Jan Lohman, Ronny Rosenthal and Lars Melvang, Michel Ngonge extended the list of foreigners who have scored on the first Watford appearance. His goal against Bradford gave the club a second consecutive home win for the first time since last November, and helped to maintain the pattern of results in Watford/Bradford City competitive matches, which have never produced an away win by either club.

For the first time ever, Watford named three full internationals as substitutes, and altogether five such players represented the club in the match, the highest total since its days in the old First Division.

Of the four players who made their home debuts, Allan Smart became the first one born north of the border to do so since Mark Gavin in September 1990.

On Tuesday Watford were eliminated in the first round of the League Cup for the first time in 18 seasons, but Michel Ngonge became the first player since Gary Penrice nine years ago to score in each of his first two games for the club.

His goal against Cambridge United was Watford's 200th in the competition, and the visitors' equaliser was the 300th, for and against, in League Cup games involving Watford at Vicarage Road.

It came from the first League Cup penalty to be awarded at the ground to a visiting team since Brett Angell of Southend United shot wide from the spot in August 1991.

Watford have won only one of their last eight home games in the competition, the last three of which have finished 1-1.
