MORE than 100 people attended a public meeting on Friday to discuss the future of Watersmeet.

At the meeting, Friends of Watersmeet urged Three Rivers district council leader Ann Shaw to re-engage in talks with the Rickmansworth Centre Trust Ltd (RCTL) about the venue.

They expressed fears the venue would "die a slow death" if it was not revamped and revitalised.

Councillor Shaw told the meeting: "We want Watersmeet to have a secure future.

"To achieve this, we must control expenditure and risk, and reduce the impact of financial pressures that are completely outside the control of the council.

"Our plan allows us to do that while making it available for a wide range of events from theatrical productions to community fairs.

"The council is very happy to talk constructively with anyone who has ideas, plans and proposals."
