A STRING of objections have followed an application to put parking bays in the place of a children's play area in South Oxhey.

The land in front of 66 and 68, and 74 and 76 Woodhall Lane is frequently used as an amenity space and play area for local children.

An application was submitted by Three Rivers District Council to put six parking bays on the land. Valerie Simmons, of Woodhall Lane, said: "This move will be totally detrimental to the quality of life of residents.

"Woodhall Lane offers an excellent facility for lchildren, who enjoy the space to play safely, under the watchful eye of their parents."

South Oxhey councillor Kerron Cross has fought hard in the past to defend green space in the area. He said: "We need to make sure we are keeping our amenity greens on the estate for local families to use.

"Most of them are well utilised by children and we will continue to campaign to keep them for the community."

A statement from Three Rivers District Council said: "A planning application was submitted on August 8 for parking bays in Woodhall Lane, South Oxhey.

"Local residents are being consulted, as they are with any planning application in their area, and are welcome to comment on the application.

"The application is expected to be considered by the development control committee at its meeting in September, which members of the public are welcome to attend."

The application will be considered at the meeting on Thursday, September 15 in the Penn Chamber, at Three Rivers House, Northway, Rickmansworth.
