The nominations for this year's Watford Borough Council elections have been published.

One councillor will be elected in each of the borough's 12 wards on May 6 – the same day as the General Election and the mayoral election.

At least three new councillors will be selected next month as the sitting councillors in Callowland, Park and Woodside will not seek re-election.

This means nine councillors – seven Liberal Democrats, one Conservative and one Labour – will seek their return to the Town Hall.

They include Iain Sharpe and Jagtar Dhindsa, the leaders of the Liberal Democrat and Labour groups respectively, who will face ballot box battles in Oxhey and Vicarage.

Stephen Johnson, who is also a mayoral candidate for the Conservatives, is seeking re-election to his Leggatts seat one year after he was first elected in a by-election.

And among his competition is Ian Brandon (Green), a county councillor for Callowland Leggatts and his party's candidate for the Watford constituency in the General Election.
