Television motor mouth Jeremy Clarkson joined the Watford campaign trail today as he visited the town's three main parliamentary candidates.

Mr Clarkson, host of the BBC’s Top Gear, was joined by Sunday Times colleague AA Gill as he visited the Conservative, Liberal Democrat, and Labour candidates.

The pair, who joined Liberal Democrat candidate Sal Brinton as she knocked on doors in Moss Road and Meadow Road, were also present in the town centre as Justice Secretary Jack Straw held a public question and answer session.

Ms Brinton said she was “delighted” to introduce Mr Clarkson to residents but conceded the notoriously right-wing star was not a natural party supporter. She added: “He was an absolutely charming man.

"I’ve no idea whether I managed to convince him – I’ll have to wait and see what he writes about.”
