The latest British soldier to die in Afghanistan was born in Watford, the Ministry of Defence has revealed.

Corporal Christopher Lewis Harrison, 26, was killed by a roadside bomb in the early hours of Sunday morning.

At the time of his death, during his second tour of the war-torn country, he was leading a foot patrol through hostile territory in Sangin, Helmand Province.

Corporal Harrison, who was attached to 40 Commando Royal Marines, lived in Somerset with his wife Rebecca.

His death brings to 285 the number of British personnel killed in the country since 2001.
