A golf centre in Watford has piloted a new scheme to help children perform better at school.
The 'Hole in One' project launched at TopGolf, in Bushey Mill Lane, has been used to reward students who achieve high levels of attendance, good behaviour and other areas of personal development.
Francis Combe Academy, in Horseshoe Lane, Garston, was the first to adopt the scheme, which has received positive feedback.
TopGolf supplied an unlimited number of certificates, which were given to pupils who used them to redeem one free game at the golf venue.
Steve McShannon, vice principal at Francis Combe Academy, said the tickets were used to “reward” attendance and positive work experience placements.
He said: “We must have used hundreds and hundreds of certificates to date.
“We have been using them as incentives for students, all based on going that extra mile.
“It's been well received and as a result, students have asked to use TopGolf as part of our upcoming activities week.”
This was one of two projects organised with TopGolf, the second was a six-week intervention scheme for “challenging pupils” that ran until May 26.
Mr McShannon said: “Not all students learn in the same way. It's a different environment. The rewards for the students are within grasping distance.”
