Young entrepreneurs in Watford took over their school to raise money for a computer centre in Ghana.
Pupils at Laurance Haines Primary School, in Vicarage Road, took part in Enterprise Week, where each year group was challenged to raise the most money by selling goods or services.
In lessons the children planned, prepared, made and marketed their products, before selling them to parents at an Enterprise Fair last Friday.
Year 4 sold smoothies and fruit kebabs, Year 3 held a raffle and Year 1 made clay sculptures of seaside objects.
The whole week raised a total of £2,500, with Year 6, who organised a car wash and Beat the Goalie competition, earning £600 alone. They were named the winners by Watford Mayor Dorothy Thornhill at a special assembly held today (Thursday).
Michelle Penny, Ethnic Minority Achievement (EMA) coordinator at the school, said: “The idea was to get the kids thinking about business.
“It was really amazing. The children were abuzz all week.”
Prior to Enterprise Week, John Lawler from Mad Venturer spoke to pupils about what life was like for a schoolchild in Ghana and the computer project their fundraising will support.
