Newly-promoted Notts County want to sign former Watford midfielder Jon Harley.
Harley is a free agent after he was released by the Hornets in June, although he is currently still training with Malky Mackay’s squad.
Notts County boss Craig Short has already held talks with the former Chelsea and Fulham player and would like the 30-year-old to fly out and join the club’s pre-season trip to Austria.
Talks are believed to be at an advanced stage and the League Two champions have even brought Harley’s training kit with them to Austria.
Former Blackburn defender Short said: "I first spoke to Jon a few weeks ago and we're still in talks with him at the moment.
"We're hoping to get him out here. We've even brought a bag of kit for him to wear.
"He would be another good signing for us because of his experience.
"He is a natural left-footer, capable of playing at full-back or on the left side of midfield.
"Watford want to keep him but can't afford to, so he's looking for a new club. I can't believe he hasn't already got one."
