A nine-year-old boy collapsed suddenly in his school playground and later died in hospital, an inquest heard today.

Kashaan Mahmood, of Rickmansworth Road, collapsed while playing with friends on June 16, and was rushed by paramedics to Watford General Hospital.

He was initially found to be breathing but attempts to resuscitate him failed and he was later pronounced dead at the Vicarage Road hospital.

The inquest heard how Kashaan earlier collapsed in a children's playground in 2007.

Tests showed he had a heart condition and doctors later fitted him with a pace-maker.

A post mortem revealed the pace-maker, though working, failed to set a constant heart beat at the time he collapsed in June 2010.

Coroner Edward Thomas recorded a verdict of sudden arrhythmic cardiac death.
