A man from Chorleywood, who represented Great Britain in the sitting-volleyball world cup, has now got his sights set on the Paralympics.
John Worrall played a key role in the men's squad, which has just returned from the 2010 World Championships held in Oklahoma.
Overall, the trip was successful for the team, celebrating wins against India, South Korea and Libya, and getting to study some of the world’s best teams.
Mr Worrall, 26, said: “I cannot describe the immense honour and pride in putting on a Great Britain shirt and representing my country.
“Oklahoma was a fantastic experience. Two weeks of top class volleyball, I learnt so much from watching other teams from all over the world.
“It has increased my hunger to keep working for the ultimate goal of the London 2012 Paralympic Games in two years' time.”
Sitting volleyball has been adapted to allow anyone, including those with a disability, to compete and has been part of the Paralympic Games since 1980.
The rules of standing volleyball still apply in principle, but with amendments, and is played on a smaller court with a lower net.
Ian Legrand, head coach, said: “The players who have shown their talent and commitment both on and off the court are starting to put in the performances we knew they were capable of.
“John Worrall has been training now for nearly two years, he continues to be one of our most hard working players and we look forward to seeing how he continues to develop."
