Councillors will meet tonight to examine the problems experienced during May’s election count.
Candidates, activists and campaigners were left frustrated in the early hours of Friday, May 7, when the results of the General Election were delayed until nearly 8am.
A report by acting returning officer and Watford Borough Council managing director Manny Lewis blamed the unusually high number of postal votes delivered to polling stations and the fact that three elections (local, national and mayoral) were held on the same day.
Members of the council’s cross party call-in and performance scrutiny committee, however, will meet at Watford Town Hall to examine the evidence and venture their own arguments.
