A BRAVE ten-year-old boy managed to fight back the tears when his finger became trapped in a bike chain this afternoon.
The young boy was mending his bicycle chain in the back garden of his home in Dell Road, Watford, when his finger became jammed.
Attempts were made by his mum to free the little boy, who remained extremely calm throughout the ordeal, but when her efforts proved unsuccessful firefighters were summoned.
Garston firefighter Grant Salmon, who went to the scene, said: “It wasn’t a very nice sight. His finger was badly crushed in the chain when we got there. It made me feel a bit queasy, but he was a very brave little lad. He was in surprisingly good spirits considering – he wasn’t crying.”
Firefighters used cutting equipment to break the chain and release the young boy’s hand.
He was taken by paramedics to Watford General Hospital for routine checks and treatment for bruising and swelling.
