Leavesden Country Park can now be accessed through a new entrance.

A new stepped entrance in the very south side of the park, off Langley Lane, has been opened by Three Rivers District Council.

This comes following reports of people breaking through existing fencing and trees and climbing the embankment.

Liberal Democrat representative, councillor Stephen Giles-Medhurst, whose ward is Leavesden, said: "Councillors have been pressing for some time to sort out a clear pedestrian line into the country park and thus avoid residents having to make a long detour.

“We are delighted with the new wide steps which mean that circular walks of the park can take place and also ensures easy acess to bus routes on Langley Lane.

“Many residents have said how pleased they are with the new entrance and how helpful it is.

“We fought hard to get the unauthorised entrance made into one that benefits walkers and many local residents, making sure it was safe to use by getting the footway extended here."

Leavesden Country Park was recently recognised with a Green Flag Award, a prestigious prize presented to 1,200 parks and open spaces that meet a strict criterion including good maintenance, cleanliness, safety and security, and are considered welcoming.
