New bins as Hertsmere Borough Council looks to hit recycling targets after grant from Hertfordshire Waste Partnership

Residents in Bushey and Radlett will begin receiving new recycling bins in October as the council looks to hit recycling targets.

The rate of waste currently recycled by Hertsmere residents is 40 per cent and the authority is aiming to increase this to 50 per cent by 2012.

A brown wheelie bin will replace the black box used by most residents in the borough for waste including plastic bottles, food tins, drinks cans and aerosols.

The reason for the switch is to allow residents to also recycle glass bottle, Tetra Pak cartons and a wider range of plastics, which can also be put in the new brown bin.

The new bins were funded by a grant of £400,000 from the Hertfordshire Waste Partnership, a joint scheme involving all of the local authorities in the county.

Gosh - That will be three wheelie bins plus a blue crate for paper - front gardens in Bushey will start to look like wheelie bin heaven!
