New CCTV cameras in Goodwood Parade, Watford, after donation from member of Hertfordshire County Council Mark Watkin

New CCTV cameras will be installed to fight anti-social behaviour in a Watford shopping parade.

Member of Hertfordshire County Council Mark Watkin allocated £125 from his locality budget to the Courtlands Residents Association to help pay for cameras in Goodwood Parade.

The parade has been subjected to a range of anti-social behaviour problems including vandalism, violence and under-age drinking.

Councillor Watkin, a Liberal Democrat, said: “There are occasions where it is necessary to install CCTV equipment to deter anti-social behaviour and, in turn, to improve the quality of life for local residents and shoppers.

"We know that CCTV is effective in reducing this kind of problem in local trouble spots so it is money well spent.”

Typical lazy approach. CCTV which is probably 'bottom-end' technology and which will produce grainy images which the W.O. can fill column inches with, no doubt.

Get the rozzers of their fat arrises and on the beat.

Dont you think a permanent police presence might be considered harassment? Would you like the police badgering you until you slipped over the speed limit or some offence you consider to be minor?

I don't break the law Thomas. It's not rocket science.

However, 'Community Policing' as it's advertised, is nothing more than sitting in high powered unmarked cars waiting for an untaxed or uninsured car, or a MOT failure to pass by.
As for cars registered to drug dealers and criminals being on the A.N.P.R database, that's ball-ox.
'Real' criminals and drugs are move around in rental cars and make sure their own cars are clean.

Yes... A.N.P.R does deal with some low level crime, but while the coppers are massaging their arrest rate figures using technology, real crime is going on...some so advanced, your average politically correct-hand-picked-
ethnic minority-single parent-homosexual-am
putee police officer wouldn't be able to understand, let alone solve.

Paddi,

Perhaps you didn't read the article correctly. The CCTV camera is intended to tackle "anti-social behaviour problems including vandalism, violence and under-age drinking". The sort of motoring offences you describe are probably a far greater threat than kids asking people to buy them cigarettes, and shouldn't really be considered low level crime; low level crime to me would be littering or similar.

I witnessed low level Highway Robbery today in Watford town centre, Thomas.

4 Old Bill stopping cars and issuing tickets to old grannies who'd accidentally driven up the High Street from MacDonalds towards Market St.

Absolute Frigging disgrace, considering the amount of God Botherers creating public nuisance at the HSBC entrance to Charter Place.........
