A new exhibition celebrating 100 years of guiding opened to the public at Bushey Museum today.
Highlights of the display, at the Rudolph Road museum, include uniforms dating back to the 1920s and log books going as far back as the 1950s.
The collection is made up from items donated by guide units across Bushey and those already held by the museum.
Museum steward Margaret Craig-Gray said she expected hundreds of visitors while the exhibition is running.
“Children will come along and see the uniforms and badges they recognise and their mothers will do the same thing. There are a lot of interesting and exciting things for people from several generations to come along and see.”
Among the items on display are a range of hats worn by Guides, Brownies and Rainbows throughout the years, as well as a camping blanket sewn by 4th Bushey Guide leader Vivien Hewett.
“It is nice to see so many things on display, it is fascinating for anyone involved in guiding. For many girls, the memories they have from camps and guide meetings are some of their fondest and this exhibition will, I'm sure, bring back those memories to people.”
The free exhibition will run from Saturday, September 4, to November 28, on Thursdays to Sundays at 11pm until 4pm.
