Plans are reportedly afoot to shoot movie “The Hobbit” at Harry Potter’s former filming home, Leavesden Studios.

According to a number of entertainment websites, director Sir Peter Jackson’s wife, Fran Walsh, has said the movie may be filmed there.

Ms Walsh, co-producer of the 3D prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy, told a New Zealand radio station: “[Warner Brothers] have got a huge studio there that Harry Potter has vacated, the ex-Rolls Royce factory, that they own and they say would be perfect for us."

The Hobbit was reportedly scheduled to be filmed in New Zealand, but it is believed that executives from Warner Brothers have travelled to the country to see about moving filming overseas.

Other locations reportedly being considered include Scotland, Canada, Ireland, Australia and Eastern Europe.

Plans to move filming follows a bitter dispute between Sir Jackson’s Wingnut Films production company and the actors’ union New Zealand Equity, which last month invoked an international boycott of the film over pay and conditions.

Warner Brothers announced earlier this year it was buying Leavesden Studios as a permanent European base.

It has been reported that Warner Brothers want to make Leavesden a European hub for post-production with visual effects, animatronics and film editing in the UK, and believes that it will attract film business to the country.

The proposal also includes a plan to allow members of the public to visit, by appointment, the sets of films made there including scenes from the Harry Potter series.

Warner Brothers is yet to comment.
