After Warner Bros. announced plans to purchase Leavesden Studios and spend £100million to redevelop the site, south-west Hertfordshire found itself in the spotlight this week.

By purchasing the studios, Warner Bros.became the first Hollywood filmmakers to have a permanent base in the UK since the 1940s.

However, there has been conflicting reports in the national media, with suggestions Leavesden Studios is in Watford, Abbots Langley and even "north London".

The site finds itself within Abbots Langley Parish, the borders of Three Rivers District Council and the parliamentary constituency of Watford.

So where exactly is Leavesden Studios?

Councillor Stephen Giles-Medhurst, Three Rivers district councillor for Leavesden, said: "Leavesden is a place in its own right. It is definitely wrong to class it as a part of Watford. Warner Bros. have made exactly the right decision by calling it Leavesden Studios."

Councillor Sara Bedford, Three Rivers district councillor for Abbots Langley, agreed that to call Leavesden part of Watford is wrong but admitted it is not easy to define its location.

She said: "The problem is the site is in part of what is historically Hunton Bridge while the entrance would be classed as Abbots Langley. I think calling it Leavesden in Hertfordshire or Leavesden in Abbots Langley would be correct."

Warner Bros. have used the site since 2000 and have produced many films such as the Harry Potter series, and parts of the hit Batman film The Dark Knight.

Watford MP Richard Harrington, meanwhile, believes that describing its location as north London is going to far out of the local area.

He said: "Leavesden is in the parliamentary constituency of Watford. As a place Leavesden is split half in Three Rivers and half in Watford. I think people would be unhappy if you called it north London."

Councillor Ann Shaw, leader of Three Rivers District Council, added: "It is clear that Leavesden is in Three Rivers and is a place within itself."
