Christmas cards and calendars featuring puppets of The Beatles and the Spice Girls helped a Watford charity raise more than £700.
DRUM (Disability Recreation Unity Movement), based at the Parkgate Youth and Community Centre in Southwold Road, hosted an open day that featured a sale of Christmas cards and a calendar featuring art created by its members during the group's Best of British project.
The event was held on Saturday, November 20 and raised a total of £756.
“The Best of British art project was a celebration of all that we have to be thankful for,” said Malcolm Cracknell, chairman of DRUM.
Activity sessions during the project included painting, textiles, ceramics, papier-mache and drama.
Sarah Sullivan, DRUM manager, said: “The Best of British has definitely been our most popular art project to date. What with the Royal wedding next year, the Beatles being released on iTunes and the theme of last Saturday's X Factor, we are obviously very current.
“Considering that the majority of our members had never done any art before coming to DRUM and with their various disabilities, we are all extremely proud of their achievements.
“We have also been very lucky to have the support of P&A Print, in Whippendell Rd, who is also one of our angling volunteers with the Watford Piscators.
“Peter printed all the cards and calendars for us again this year, which means that all the money raised through the sales can do straight towards new art materials for our group.”
